Class: 5 - Lesson: 6.2 Spreadsheet (Create a Student Mark Sheet)

Purpose: Students should learn the special features of spreadsheets - freezing rows and columns, and Find and Replace.

OpenOffice (Spreadsheet).

Students should know:

    1. Create a new spreadsheet and name it 'student mark sheet.ods'. Use formulae to calculate the Total and Average.

  • Teacher Instructions
    1. Teachers should ensure that students understand simple operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division before giving the exercise.
    2. Students should identify the number of rows and columns before creating the spreadsheet.
    3. Teachers should explain the autofill feature (drag the autofill handle at the bottom right of a cell) and how this is useful in filling dates, days or serial numbers.
    4. Teachers should ensure that all students understand the freeze rows and columns feature and how to sort columns, and also how to highlight the header row by applying shading to that row.
    5. To find the formula in a specific cell, refer to the formula bar at the top left of the sheet.
